Detail shots are such a fun way to display all of the personal touches you have put into your wedding day! Behind every wedding is a lot of time and dedication put in to planning the decor, choosing a color scheme, designing the invitations, and so much more. Ensuring these parts of your wedding day are captured is a way to preserve the personalized touches and unique-ness of your wedding!
One of the first things I do when I arrive is gather and photograph your details. This gives me time to get photos of things like the dress and the rings before they are needed. This also gives everyone else time to finish getting ready.
Some detail shots I like to take at weddings include...
- Flat lays: these are photos of your invitation suite along with other smaller details, like your rings, flowers, etc.
- The bride's details: this includes the bride's wedding dress, shoes, and veil.
- The groom's details: this includes the groom's shoes, watch, cufflinks, etc.
- Decorations: I aim to get photos of your ceremony and reception space before guests arrive to capture the untouched beauty of all the decor that has been put together.
Here are some ideas of things you can include in your detail shots!
- All three rings (this includes the bride's wedding band, the groom's wedding band, and the bride's engagement ring)
- Ring boxes/dishes
- Invitation suite (save-the-dates, invitation, envelope, stamps. 2 copies of the suite is ideal)
- Wedding shoes
- Veil
- Jewelry
- Hair piece(s)
- Perfume/cologne
- Vow books/love notes
- Bouquet & boutonnière
- Spare loose flowers
- Ribbon
- Family Heirlooms
- Polaroids
- Tie/bowtie
- Belt
- Cufflinks
- Watch
The beauty about detail shots is that they are unique to you! Do you and your fiancé love to drink coffee together? Include some matching coffee mugs! Was your first date at the movies? Include ticket stubs from your first date! The ideas are endless!
Details are meant to capture who you are as a couple and be a reminder of the love you have for each other. So don't be afraid to get creative and have fun with them!
